Neuromassage

Neuromassage is a unique therapeutic system that combines bodywork and biofeedback to improve health by making intentional changes in the relationships between the brain, the nerves, the organs and the muscles. Neuromassage facilitates a deep state of relaxation, which allows for the release of chronic tension. Neuromassage enhances the effectiveness of structural bodywork, because the body accepts deep work with minimal resistance. In addition, Neuromassage helps to reduce chronic pain, sensitization, and reactivity to stress. It also produces a profound transformation of body awareness. With this new level of awareness, client and therapist work together to create an individualized plan for learning to access and maintain states of relaxation and comfort throughout daily life.
In addition to bodywork, a neuromassage program may include the use of movement, breath meditations, EMG biofeedback (for reducing muscle tension), neurofeedback (EEG biofeedback) or any combination of these, depending on the client’s specific needs.
NeuroMassage is helpful for both children and adults. It is effective in pain
reduction, stress management, improving focus and creating a state of overall well-being. By using the NeuroMassage system, Langdon Roberts has helped people who have been diagnosed with conditions
such as:
• chronic pain
• sleep disorders
• Tourette’s syndrome
• obsessive-compulsive disorder
• TMJ syndrome
• fibromyalgia
• anxiety disorders
• attention deficit disorder
• learning disorders
• autism
• Asperger’s syndrome
• pervasive developmental disorder
• depression
• trauma
• repetitive stress injuries
What can I expect?
The experience of NeuroMassage involves 6 essential processes:
1. Releasing muscle tension, relieving pain, balancing body structure and mobilizing joints
2. Learning effective breathing, relaxation and pain control techniques
3. Developing body awareness
4. Transforming habitual automatic stress responses
5. Creating a unique strategy that will allow for access to relaxed, pain-free states during everyday life
6. Learning to focus on difficult or stressful tasks while remaining calm
Clients often notice substantial improvement after just a few sessions. As treatment progresses, clients become accustomed to new levels of relaxation, focus and awareness. Gradually, they gain increased control over their own nervous systems. After the initial learning phase, periodic maintenance appointments are often recommended to support a continued higher level of well-being.
What techniques are employed?
Symptoms of pain and anxiety depend upon the state of a complex network that includes the brain, spinal cord, nerves, muscles and organs. Therefore, a variety of techniques are employed to address
the entire system in order to achieve long-term relief. The fundamental approach and many of the bodywork techniques are unique to NeuroMassage. However, some techniques are drawn from the other
healing methods that Langdon has studied. Among these methods are:
• neurofeedback (EEG biofeedback)
• EMG biofeedback (reduces muscle tension)
• neuro-associative conditioning techniques
• Alpha-Stim microcurrent stimulation
• myofascial therapy
• deep tissue massage
• Swedish massage
• sports massage
• Shiatsu
• breathwork
• Kundalini yoga
• guided visualization
• neuromuscular facilitation
• movement therapies
• muscle and joint health maintenance strategies
